With winter practically here, most people (especially those in the Chicagoland Area) aren't getting married. However, that shouldn't stop you from having your dream wedding. For many, having a destination wedding would be out the price range, which is fully understandable. Though, it doesn't have to be. A destination wedding isn't always more expensive than your traditional wedding.
Let's look at why a destination wedding is something you should consider.
1. Travel to a beautiful destination
There is just something magical about getting married in a beautiful location. It makes your magical moment that much more special. And what better way to do it than share that once in lifetime experience with those closest to you.
2. Forces you to prioritize
Often times, people get too caught up in the nitty gritty of planning and ultimately forget why they're getting married in the first place. Obviously, putting everyone up in a hotel is not cheap. That is why you'll realize who is most important in your life and make sure they are in attendance. Then, if and when your budget begins to tighten, you will look at the spending list and make cuts. You don't need fancy centerpieces when all the decor surrounding you is breathtaking.
3. TWO honeymoons
Just because you get married abroad doesn't mean you don't get to have a honeymoon. If you've been bitten by the travel bug like myself, then this is the perfect way to fit in those destinations you've been wanting to explore.
4. Longer time with guests
A traditional wedding often is only several hours of the bride and groom making rounds to talk to everyone. With a destination wedding, you have a few days to truly mingle and interact with those important to you.
5. Destination weddings are more often, CHEAPER, than traditional
Now, this answer will obviously depend on where you are going, how many people you are inviting, etc. However, more often than not, many tourist destinations want more business. That is why, it can actually be easier to get better deals. Package deals, planners, and other accommodation perks are often included when having your wedding abroad.
I do want to add, make sure you do your homework on the destination before you book. If you can visit beforehand, even better. You can also hire a planner who has experience working with certain destinations. He or she may have tips and or tricks that could prove beneficial. For example, as beautiful as Santorini may be, it gets incredibly crowded there. This makes it tricky to have a peaceful, uninterrupted wedding. You will also pay premium because it is high in demand. Though, there are other equally beautiful greek islands that will be much cheaper like Zakynthos because they aren't as well known. All in all, just make sure to do your research.
These are only a few of the reasons why I believe destination weddings are worth your while!
